Lica Cecato is a Brazilian singer and guitarist with a deep and colorful contralto voice. A recipient of the prestigious Sarah Vaughn Award, Lica studied under full scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She has performed at festivals, theatres and clubs throughout the world, and has become known as an adventurous performer who combines music, poetry, body movement and visual arts. Fluent in several languages, including Japanese, Lica has developed a unique style, which seamlessly and playfully blends multi-lingual lyrics. Lately she has performed in Paris, France at New Morning and also at Cite Internationale des Arts, Marais, Paris; Bossa Nova Festival Mir Theatre, Moscou and Jazz Caffe Emporium, Moscou, Russia; Turkey, at the Ankara International Jazz Festival; in Western Australia, at Bunbury Jazz Festival; in Indonesia, at Java International Jazz Festival and JakJazz Int'l Jazz Festival; in Germany , at Cologne's Stadtgarten; in Japan, at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, and Kioi Concert Hall in Tokyo; in Brasil at Mistura Fina and CCBB, Rio de Janeiro, SESC Pompeia, and SESC Pinheiros, Sao Paulo. -1994, Music of the World, released for the 50th Anniversary celebration of the United Nations. The release contains two of Lica’s compositions, representing both Japan and Brazil: “Japan Rap” with poet Haroldo de Campos, and “Manawara”, with Luizão Paiva, both recorded at the Deutsche Welle, Cologne, Germany.
-2000, voices@stadtgarten celebrating 10 years of Stadtgarten, the well-known German Jazz Club in Cologne.
-2003, Ojala que escuche! a cd by Argentinean tenor saxophonist Blas Rivera. Lica is featured on the disc’s only vocal track, the Piazzola/Ferrer tango Chiquilín de Bachin. The cd also features musicians Pablo Ziegler, Yamandu Costa, Marcos Suzano, David Chew, Bruce Henry and Ana Oliveira.
-2004, Going Down Swinging 22 Australia, Project Z, together with artists Nojiri Takuya, Sandy Caldow, TT.O, in a multilingual performace/recording. Spoken Word CD.
