Miley Cyrus let it all hang out in a recent interview. And we’re not talking about her boobs, which she proudly displayed at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards.

She spoke candidly about sex during a recent interview for the new Lifetime series “The Converation” with host Amanda de Cadenet, and TMI or not, it’s raising all sorts of eyebrows.

“Sex is actually really beautiful. It’s the only way we create, and it’s the only way the world keeps going,” she said.

The former Disney star has come a long way — we’ve watched her grow up since she was cast at 12 years old in “Hannah Montana.” But she’s constantly scrutinized for growing up too fast and being too sexy for a 19 year old.

Some of Miley’s ultra-conservative critics have called her “disgusting.” Her belief in same-sex marriage, her views on religion and her “sexier” image are sore points with many.

But isn’t that kind of a double standard, when tons of other young artists dress provocatively, and sing and talk about explicit sex? Since sexual imagery saturates the media anyway, should we talk more openly about it in a more positive way and educate the younger public? Miley seems to think so.

“It’s ignorant not to talk to your kids about it or [not] make it seem as magical or cool as it actually is,” she said. “[Kids] have a TV, so they know what sex is. So educate them and let them know … it’s a beautiful thing, and it is magic, and it’s when you connect with somebody. And it isn’t how much you’re worth. Your worth isn’t based on that, your worth is based on how you feel about yourself.”

“For me, what I do [being sexy] is not the point,” she added. “You’re not sitting there trying to be sexy. If people find that [I am], I take it as a compliment.”
