Gary Ross has been around the block, and “The Hunger Games” isn’t his first successful movie. He’s also directed “Pleasantville” (which grossed $40 million) and “Seabiscuit” (which grossed $148 million). But will he do “The Hunger Games” sequel? The verdict is still out, and here’s why.

Despite the fact that Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth have already signed on for the sequel, it turns out that Ross is holding out for a raise, especially in light of how well “The Hunger Games” has performed at the box office (over $363 million so far). He was paid $3 million for directing “The Hunger Games,” but at this point Lionsgate is balking at the idea of paying big money for Ross to direct the next installment of the franchise.
    .
It wouldn’t be the first time that a movie studio has moved forward with a movie franchise without the original director in place, and Lionsgate knows this. They’ve cited both the “Twilight” series as well as “Harry Potter” as having made the transition quite successfully.
    .
So, what do you think? Should Ross get more money to do the next “Hunger Games” film? Or, will the franchise crash without him?
