  • At long last, Linkin Park get their own video game

by Amar Syal Mar 31, 2010 at 2:41 PM

They’ve only really put out three full-length albums in their 10-year public history, so it makes sense that Linkin Park would wade into the waters of a fourth album very slowly. They still swear it’s coming this year, but in the meantime, head-rapper-in-charge Mike Shinoda is making a very different announcement: We just made a video game, y’all!

Okay, these were not his exact words. But nevertheless, it’s true: ”8-Bit Rebellion” is a mobile game app designed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the newly shipped iPad in which, Shinoda says, “you’ll battle enemies and solve mysteries in order to stop an evil corporation’s mass-brainwashing campaign.” Whatever that means.

No, former frontman Trace Cyrus isn’t forming a band with his sister Miley Cyrus or his adoptive father Billy Ray. But Cyrus did announce via his Twitter account that he would be returning to music sooner than most expected.

“I will be releasing my own music very soon,” a recent Tweet read. “With a new band name. I’m excited for this new path in my life but sad to say bye to MS.” Cyrus followed this statement up two days ago, adding (or, more accurately, yelling) that a “NEW SONG WILL BE POSTED ONLINE BY THE END OF THIS WEEK. get ready.”

  • Meet LIGHTS on tour with Owl City

by Trevor Kelley Mar 30, 2010 at 8:14 PM

    Dude, it’s so on…. again.

You may remember our inaugural “Introducing… “ artist LIGHTS blogging about how she was trying to meet fans while she opened up for surprise pop radio staple Owl City this Spring. The rules for getting to actually see her in person (wearing some form of neon tanktop, of course) were simple: Go to her profile, friend her, and then wait for info on her whereabouts to pop up each night in your status stream.

Well, our lady is back on the road and is looking to  meet up with all of you. Again. In fact, she says as much in the video below. We know, sometimes completely out there ideas like this don’t work out, but we truly believe that you can see this through. And that’s because, really, all you really have to do is look down at your phone to do it.

  • WTF!?: Taking Back Sunday restore original line-up

by Trevor Kelley Mar 29, 2010 at 6:43 PM

Give it another five minutes and this story is bound to get even more bizarre… but here is the latest.

Approximately one hour after announcing that both bassist Matt Rubano and guitarist Matt Fazzi had left Taking Back Sunday, the band’s official website displayed the image above. In it, you can see what appears to be the group’s classic line-up photographed in present day. Shortly after the photo went up former bassist Shaun Cooper tweeted, ”I have a feeling things are about to get extremely weird…. ” while former guitarist John Nolan posted a message on his blog that read: “LOOK OUT!”

  • Taking Back Sunday lose two members in one day!

by Trevor Kelley Mar 29, 2010 at 4:29 PM

    Taking Back Sunday

Jesus, they really are the emo Spinal Tap. This afternoon, not one but two members of Taking Back Sunday announced that they were leaving the group. First, in a statement posted on the band’s official website, bassist Matt Rubano revealed that he was splitting from the band:

“After seven years I’m sad to announce that I will no longer be playing the bass with Taking Back Sunday,” Rubano’s statement read. “I would like to thank Adam, Eddie and Mark for giving me this amazing opportunity that changed my life. I am proud of the music we made together and cherished every moment of it. And to Taking Back Sunday fans, there isn’t anything I can say that will express the way I feel toward you. It’s literally been a dream come true and you were the cast of that dream. I am happy to have met and befriended so many of you. I will miss you all.”
