"It is the creative process that fascinates me - the fact that you can start with nothing then suddenly you find a few chords that work, then a melody starts to form, then the lyrics start floating about and finally you have something that actually "exists" and usually seems like it always has done! it's odd - I'm still not entirely sure where it all comes from....
Songs arrive in a variety of ways - sometimes I have a tune and will deliberately sit and write fitting lyrics - others just seem to fall right out of the guitar with hardly any thought involved..." Steven Perrott
"The 3rd album by The Rolling River Band draws on elements from both "Been A Long Time" and "Such is Life" but leans more towards a rock album than its predecessors. Certainly the darkest, most upbeat album of the trilogy, this CD shows a different side to the band. Haunting, dark, beautiful, gritty atmospheric folk."

"Such is Life is our second album. The follow up to Been A Long Time is a collection of 18 original compositions exploring a variety of styles from Indy Rock, to Folk, Blues and Country. Lead vocals are shared between the two members of the band providing an added element of interest throughout. This album is very much guitar based with an overall laid back vibe - sometimes sweet, sometimes dark but always very listenable."

"I can't put my finger on it but theres something great about this song. the recording/mixing seems to have some issues, but i think that adds to the character. i honestly wouldnt change anything, there are so many small imperfections that make this song so great." Extra Credit: Mood, Coolest Chill-Out Track. - EvanKing Cary, North Carolina
"On a clear day... Nice mood setter. Just listening takes you to the mountain side. Nice package from the lyrics to the vocal performance and the harmonica tops it off." Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Mood, Best Potential Movie Soundtrack. - ericzbandsite Adrian, Michigan
"Nice moody song I like what you did with this...verses are interesting...but I really like how you bridge out of them...nice chord selection and vocal line...cool chorus...nice simple production doesn't get in the way of the song...very tasteful...nice job" Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Originality. - buzzynoyze Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
"Very Special Track Pleasant song... relaxing... deep, dusly vocals really set the mood... well mixed & produced... excellent creative work, I think with the delicate piano bits & acoustic guitar." Extra Credit: Production, Melody. - Meaner Karachi, Pakistan
"Flying up the charts I hope Loved the lyrics to this song - told in a story/dylanesque style with an easily digestible tune that grows on you like an mighty beard. A top notch production would hurl this song into the stratosphere where it should be. What we have here is truly enjoyable. The guitar panned to the right is rocking and adds nicely to the tune's dylan/springsteen-like groove. His voice is engaging too. Good stuff." Reviewed by: Alphaspin from United Kingdom
"Recently while I was in Austin, TX for the Blaze-O-Rama, I also had the pleasure of hanging out with the Front Porch Gypsies for a couple of days, and Zach told me of a song that was written and recorded by a band in Scotland called The Rolling River Band. The song is titled The Ballad of Blaze Foley, and it of course brought real tears to my eyes, and touched my heart deeply. I wanted to make this song known to as many as possible, along with turning people on to The Rolling River Band. They have kindly posted the song on their myspace page for all to hear. I hope you will check it out, along with other beautiful songs on their page. You can click on The Rolling River Band among my top friends......you will surely enjoy what you hear! I would love to hear your comments on the song that was so well written, for my brother." Marsha (Blaze Foleys sister)
This was the poster used at the Blaze-O-Rama concert in Austin to advertise "The Ballad of Blaze Foley"
"Short and sweet when i heard this song i pictured myself on the backporch of a appalcion moutian shack, it sounds like a song thats been around for a hundred years, definitely in the right genre, the guitar has an excellent almost bluesy feel." Extra Credit: Guitars, Mood, Originality, Coolest Chill-Out Track. - PolyesterPeace Atlanta, Georgia
"Kickin' back This is a terrific song - love the mellow groove of it. Just kickin' back and playin'. Good guitar work throughout - very clean and tight. Vocal is like an old pair of jeans - perfctly comfortable and serviceable. Good lyric. Overall great tune." Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Guitars. - Blackbirds Chicago, Illinois
"Dueling Duo This sounds like a duet with Bob Dylan and Waylen Jennings. I love it actually. The song writing here is heavily influenced by Dylan. I'm especially reminded of one of his latest releases, Love and Theft. You painted a vivid image in my mind with your lyrics as you described the sky and the moonlight and the storm coming in. Performance was subtle, toned down, similar to the mood of cowering in the basement as the storm blows over. You do well translating this mood with your performance." Extra Credit: Lyrics. - cowboyhat2 Las Vegas, Nevada
"Toe tapper diluted guitar in the beginning, but a very easy on the ears voice to match...you sound like a less gravelly tom waits...in fact now that I say that i'm hearing alot of tom here..... this is decent with the voice being the highlight.." - biped Rockerville, South Dakota
"Nailed Me For me, you can’t go wrong with an upright bass in the mix. It makes an acoustic song so much richer, and in this case it underscores this pensive moment perfectly. These vocals are aged to perfection and hit the aural palate like that fine red wine. There is no doubt as to the authenticity of this singer’s experience, and no question of his ability to relate it with quiet power. The rawness of production adds to this bittersweet ambience of regret. I can feel the blank canvas of that cold day outside, and the redemption in this poor soul’s attempt to reconcile this aching loss. I’ve been there, and I’ll be damned if this number didn’t evoke tears! That sapphire sky actually made me cry. Hit me just right. Hell. That was a surprise, and it ain’t stoppin’. Anyway, let me try to get over my embarrassment so I can continue, although I don’t know what more I could say. You’re the first one on this website and the first one in a long time to make me blubber like a woman. I’m filing this one in the “special mood” section. Excellent." Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Lyrics, Mood. - arlolukeronlee Auburn, New York
"Simple beauty Starting a song with a quote as famous as "All Things Must Pass" can be a dangerous thing, it draws comparisons immediately, but that is overcome quickly here. No similarities to George here, it's a different type of melodic structure altogether...nice. Often I feel that the very slow songs are boring, there's not enough going on. This is one song that benefits from the slow pace, it inrigues and draws the listener in, waiting to hear what the next line will be. I am digging this... The arrangement is so simple that it almost goes unnoticed. On second listen, I hear that the arrangement is absolutely beautiful in its simplicity. Its hard to not make something like this way too busy, but you showed the control to keep it simple throughout, and it works to maximum effect in support of the lyrics. This is one good song...it reminds me of the kind of song that wouldn't be the hit on an album, buit would be the song people talk about - "yeah, the hit is good, but have you heard THIS tune??" Real good stuff..." Extra Credit: Male Vocals, Production. - 2HipForTheRoom Bellmore, New York
"Better than Zimmerman I like this tune, very poetic lyrics, along with smooth vocals that soothes the spirit like Good Whiskey. Guitars had a nice feel to them throughout, and was overall a great little "cowboy" song. I wish I could hear more!" - seafor Virginia Beach, Virginia
"Acoustically Superb With Electric Restraint Wow. This song brings to mind the songwriting skills of Bob Dylan with touches of Buck Owens. It is written from the heart. It reaches out and pulls you in like a Venus fly trap. The musicianship on the guitars is excellent, inspired and hooks you in from the start. There is a somber mood and quality about it that almost sounds as if it was performed live in a deserted subway station. These musicians have starved for thier art and paid their dues. The lyrics are well balanced and there is a big payoff at the end. The restraints on bassist is perfect. I was a little surprised when the bass was replaced by another acoustic guitar. But overall effect of the mix is incredible. There are so many places this song can go. It has legs of its own and would probably be picked up pretty quickly for inclusion in multiple motion picture soundtracks. It almost has a Jerry McGuire mood about it and should go far. It would be an automatic tear in the eye when added to a date movie."
