Mathlete is the duo of Mike Downey (guitar, synthesizer) from Wolfie and Dan Marsden (synth, rhythm machine).
The pair recalls the new wave synth pop of the early '80s in their match of chirpy electronics with chirpy pop tunes. The vocals (by both) often bury precise articulation of the lyrics with distortion and phasing that can make them sound like masked androids. Their 2000 debut CD, Telstar Parthenon, was comprised of 20 short electro-pop tunes. ~ Richie Unterberger
