LA VIEJA GUARDIA (Spanish for ‘The Old Guard’) is not the first hardcore band to emerge from the city of Miami, a city with a long and distinguished list of bands in the genre dating back to the late 80’s. They are the first hardcore band to emerge from this city with a true cultural expression of the Miami scene. The LVG have set themselves apart as such by fusing together the finer points of furious 90’s style hardcore with the lyrical point of view of the Miami Cuban. The gratuitous use of the ever so colorful Cuban Lexicon gives this band’s music a distinct feel amongst the rest of the Latin bands in the genre. Conceptually the band make connections between hardcore music’s unwritten codes of ethics and old world Hispanic values. The lyrics teeter on the brink between the philosophical and the utterly brutal while keeping it streetwise with heavy use of cult Cuban street lingo, which is famous among the Spanish peoples... “Hardcore music is a very regional genre. Bands in this genre take great pride in representing their whereabouts and each scene has its own trademark sound” says the bands front man Frank. ”New York, L.A., Boston, all those cities have their bands that left imprints. But Miami has been a city with a long untold history of Punk and Hardcore with its own distinct flavor which the scene as a whole has yet to come across”. .. Musically the 'LVG' play aggressive old school (Olde Tyme) hardcore in the vein of classic groups like WarZone, Burn, Judge, and Leeway just to name some of the more noted influences; but the band also elaborates on the most energetic yet non-formulaic elements of the glorious pre-metalcore 90's. In this "revivalist" age of the hardcore scene many of the younger up and coming bands try to re-hash the classic hardcore sound to some acquire some Old School credibility but seldom are able to truly capture the sound. The LVG is only channeling the music they were raised on in its purest form. .. The band was formed when Frank (vocals), and Harold, (guitar), co-wrote and played on the Guajiro track "Delincuente" off their Material Subversivo release in 2007. They were all so happy with result of the collaboration, that they decided to start a new project, and "LVG" was born. The band contains two more members of Guajiro, Doug MacKinnon (Drums), and David Santos (Guitar). .. Each of the members of this band were reared in the scene from the late 80's on up and the band members resume's include such names as SLAPSHOT, DNME, IGNITE, The VANDALS, ANGER, DNME, MEHKAGO NT and others. .. The list of names which the band has opened for thus far in its short trajectory is reads like a who’s who of hardcore legends. The list includes MADBALL, SICK OF IT ALL, KILLING TIME, BLOODCLOT, DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR, WISDOM IN CHAINS, with future shows in the works with 25 TA LIFE, as well as upcoming tours to Puerto Rico and South America... Their Self-Titled Debut EP will be released on October 7th, 2008 on prestigious I Scream Records. LA VIEJA GUARDIA no es el primer grupo hardcore que a salido de la ciudad de Miami, ni siquiera es el primer grupo hardcore latino,pero si es el primer grupo en este genero que a capturado el cubanismo; o por lo menos primer grupo hardcore cubano que tiene una discograf'ia disponible. .. La musica lleva una fuerte influencia de una variedad de las formulas mas energeticas de los 90’s (la epoca de oro para el hardcore) pero es el concepto de las letras que distingue este grupo, los temas estan escritos desde una perspectiva cubana... En Miami, tanto como en donde quiera que esten, los cubanos resaltan entre otras cosas por su forma de hablar, los dichos, los refranes y el punto de vista cubano le a dado vida a una lista sin fin de temas latinos, pero nunca dentro de el mundo del hardcore; Por esto es interesante la profunda coneccion que crea el grupo entre el codigo de eticas de el mundo hardcore y los antiguos principios culturales de los hispanos. .. La musica tiene sabor a grupos hardcore clasicos como WARZONE, BURN, JUDGE, y LEEWAY, pero tambien incorpora elementos de el hardcore circa 1990-1996. .. En esta nueva edad de el hardcore hay muchos grupos jovenes que han estudiado las formulas del genero pero no la pueden reproducir. LVG no tuvo que estudiar las formulas, ellos la vivieron, los integrantes del grupo se criaron dentro de el hardcore a fin de los 80’s y vivieron la epoca “renaissance” de los 90’s. .. Dentro de los individuos que componen LA VIEJA GUARDIA se encuentran ex-miembros de SLAPSHOT, MEHKAGO N.T., DNME, IGNITE,The VANDALS, ANGER y GUAJIRO, en la corta trayectoria de LVG ya han abierto para legendarios como MADBALL, SICK OF IT ALL, KILLING TIME, WISDOM IN CHAINS y BLOODCLOT. LVG esta planificando viajar a la isla de Puerto Rico en Noviembre y a Sur America en el 2009. .... .. .. .. ..
