The Afet (Turkish for catastrophically beautiful) Collective is a group of bellydancers from Canada, Australia, the United States, the Phillipines and Japan that formed late in 2006 to bridge the gaps between the various bellydance scenes in Tokyo. .. .. They are a group of socially concerned professional belly dance artists who raise awareness and funds for women's charities. In 2007-2008 they raised over 300 000 yen for HELP Housing in the Emergency of Love and Peace Women's Shelter in Tokyo. .. .. Their work has been written about in The Japan Times, Metropolis, Being A Broad magazine, and Smashing Mag. .. .. Their next show will be January 24, 2009 at Cozmos Cafe in Shibuya. All the proceeds from Afet benefit shows go directly to the House of Sharing charity in Seoul, South Korea. .. ..
