Take a couple of chords, a pair of black boots and a chorus capable of penetrating a sixpack-protected solar plexus. Infuse a huge sense of urgency, add a few drinks and strafe the lot with sharp observations. It might seem like a familiar recipe, and in a way it is, but just like you're not gonna complain about a good whisky because it lacks novelty, you're not going to begrudge Speedboat Girls when they kick with some chords you've heard before. Feral yet tightly controlled, Speedboat Girls bring the terseness of a mod band to serve up tales that catalog domestic claustrophobia and bad judgment that may sound familiar to those who love X; other songs focus a bright light on backdoor political corruption reminiscent of The Clash. We would not recommend asking Speedboat Girls for a pull on your shiny new water skis. Speedboat Girls don't strike poses, don't take themselves too seriously and don't care what the kids are listening to.
