Bio:

.. 1976年東京に生まれる。

6歳からクラシックピアノを習っていたこともあり幼い頃から音楽に親しむ。

学生時代はクラシックに拘ることなく色々なジャンルの音楽に触れ合う。
中でもビートルズやスティング、エルトンジョン、ビリージョエル、などに影響を受け本物を知るために19歳の時イギリスへ音楽留学をする。

この頃から作詞作曲を始め、日本に帰国後御茶ノ水の楽器店のメンバー募集でボーカリストの谷中たかしと知り合い意気投合し、ふたりで作詞作曲を手掛けポップユニットcannaを結成。
canna の音楽は季節感を大切にしどこか懐かしい中にも新しさを感じる人の心の奥を癒す時代に流されない曲づくりを心ざす。

音楽学校のオーディションで実力を発揮し1998年、タワーレコード系列のbounce recordsよりシングル「拝啓あなた様」をリリース。
その後、ライブハウスなどでLive活動をしながら幾つかのレコード会社から声を掛けられるが1999年ソニーミュージックよりシングル「紙ひこうき」で念願のメジャーデビューを果たす。
シングル9枚、ミニアルバム2枚、フルアルバム2枚を世の中に残し惜しまれつつも2003年、cannaとしての活動を休止する。

その後も周水は大好きな音楽を作り続ける傍ら友人の勧めで行ったスウェーデンで沢山のスウェーデン人や世界の音楽クリエーターと知り合う。現在は彼らと音楽をを共に作り上げ数多くの作品をアーティストへ提供している。

2004年 (有)Stock Room International を設立し、これからもアーティストやシンガーへの楽曲提供やシンガーソングライターとしての活動をはじめミュージカルや劇版、CM音楽と幅広く日本だけではなく、新たなる音楽の世界を追求し続けている。

Shusui is born in Tokyo on January, 1976.

Diagnosed with a vision impairment, Shusui takes up classical piano at the encouragement of his parents and begins a natural, life-long relationship with music.

Switching from piano to bass, Shusui forms his first band with a school friend

At 19, Shusui moves to London to study English and to become closer to the music of artists that have influenced him. These include such artists as The Beatles, Sting, Elton John and Billy Joel.

Shusui begins to write songs while in London, then returns to Japan and places an open-audition ad searching for band members. Shusui meets vocalist Takashi Taninaka and immediately forms a musical and personal friendship.

Shusui collaborates with Taninaka on new songs and forms the pop-unit “canna” in 1997.

“canna” aims to create timeless music which touches the soul and evokes a sense of tranquility and nostalgia with a focus and appreciation on the traditional Japanese seasons.

“canna” polishes its performances through various school-related auditions, and in 1998 the unit enjoys the independent release of its first single, “HAIKEI ANATA SAMA” through the Tower Records affiliated bounce records label.

In the same year, “canna” scores a success as the songwriters behind the KinKi Kids single “AO NO JIDAI” which sells over two-million copies.

“canna” continues to tour regularly and the duo continues to write songs while fielding offers from various record companies. In 1999, “canna” signs with Sony Music Entertainment and releases their first major-label single “KAMI HIKOUKI.”


In 2003 “canna” goes on hiatus after releasing 9 singles, 2 mini-albums and 2 full-albums.

Shusui continues to write and at the recommendation of a friend visits Sweden for the first time where he meets and begins to collaborate with a wide-range of hit-making Swedish writers. Many of those collaborations continue to this day and have resulted in a stream of hit songs with various Japanese artists.

In 2004, Shusui forms the music publishing and production company Stock Room International. The following year, Shusui scores his third million-selling single with the Shuji & Akira song “SEISHUN AMIGO.” The song goes on to become the biggest selling single of 2005 and solidifies Shusui’s collaborative relationship with his Swedish songwriting partners.

To this day Shusui continues to collaborate with writer’s from all over the world and has enjoyed success outside of Japan in such countries as Sweden, Mexico and Asia as well. He continues to be active as both an artist and songwriter, contributing songs to both major and up-and-coming Japanese artists, as well as marking his 10th anniversary in the music business with a series of live performances as a singer-songwriter.

In addition to continuing to pursue a new challenge as a singer-songwriter, Shusui looks forward to contributing songs to musicals and films as well as building on his songwriter collaborations to deliver a new style of music not only to Japan, but also to the rest of the world.
