Puzzle Muteson is the alter ego of English singer/songwriter Terry Magson.
Born on the Isle of Dogs in London, England, Magson displayed natural musical ability at an early age when his high-school music teacher noticed his vocal prowess and vibrato skills. Magson went on to study music at college for a brief period before ultimately dropping out to explore his creativity and musical ideas on his own. Not too long afterward, Puzzle Muteson was conceived and he began to turn heads with his magical combination of folk-infused fingerpicked guitar harmonies and resonant, enveloping vocals. Magson began to hone his songwriting abilities and put out a few rough releases under the Puzzle Muteson moniker, catching the attention of esteemed producers Nico Muhly and Valgeir Sigurðsson. The duo expressed an interest in developing his songs even further and began to work with Magson on his ideas, eventually culminating in the release of his 2011 debut, En Garde, on Sigurðsson's own Bedroom Community label. The release received critical acclaim and garnered comparisons to other proficient songwriters such as Damien Rice, while also highlighting the weary yet light and hopeful auditory nature of the album. The singer/songwriter went on to tour the U.K. and Ireland in support of artists on the Sub Pop roster such as Death Vessel and the Fruit Bats. Puzzle Muteson returned in 2014 with his second full-length effort, Theatrics, which also received favorable reviews. The record was noted for adopting new stylistic directions, focusing on loops and more prominent percussion as well as Magson's signature arpeggiated guitar sound and vibrato vocals. ~ Rob Wacey
