    Vanexa were one of the first Italian heavy metal band, their self-titled LP was consecrated by the national press as the first italian heavy metal album. Born in Savona in 1978, their sound was typically Anglo-Saxon evidence abroad where they were cited by several magazines as proponents of the new wave of heavy metal
    band from late '70s early '80s. They also participated as a headliner at the first heavy metal festival held in Certaldo Italian in Florence May 21, 1983. In their careers have also participated in various compilations including metal of Metal Mountain, exit the United States, with the song "Hanged Man" and Metal Italy with the song "It's Over". In 2007 a CD reissue of their eponymous debut album with 3 bonus tracks and unreleased second album "Back From The Ruins" with 5 bonus tracks taken from a live concert of 1984 was released in 2010 is out "1979-80" a compilation of early material ( totally sung in italian) released on vynil and cd supports. We needed a new fresh band with a new fresh sound. VANEXA spearheaded what was termed 'the new wave of heavy metal'. They were a more than welcome addition of the italian hard rock/metal scene. Yet, this debut offering offers more energy and speed than actual accomplishment. In 1983 VANEXA released their self-titled debut album, starting what would become a legendary career for the band. They were one of many promising bands in the New Wave of Heavy Metal movement at the time. Following the success of Vanexa, the band released released their second album Back From The Ruins in 1988. The album featured fan-favourites "Midnight Wolves", "Creation", "Hanged Man". This new album contained many tracks that had been written prior to the release of the debut album, but were considered surplus. With songs already shaped on the road well in advance, only two new tracks were written for the album; Hanged Man and Creation. The band adopted a different approach for their 1994 studio album, titled Against The Sun. This was not a concept album, though it was themed loosely around the idea of social problems. It featured, for the first time in the band's history, synthesized Keyboards and guitars sounds to add textures and layers to the sound. Though considered different from the norm of Vanexa sounds, it a good response across the world, especially for new incredible voice of Roberto TIRANTI. The VANEXA lyrics contains literature quotes about famous books/movies or social problems fusioned in great heavy metal sound.

Biography



Im Februar 1986 gründen der Sänger und Gitarrist CHARLY STEINHAUER und der Schlagzeuger AXEL BLAHA in der süddeutschen Mainmetropole Würzburg die Band PARADOX.
Die beiden sind seit 1981 gemeinsam musikalisch aktiv. Frühere Formationen von ihnen heißen OVERKILL, POISON, MANIAC und WARHEAD. Im Februar 1986 stoßen der Gitarrist MARKUS SPYTH und der Bassist ROLAND STAHL hinzu und vervollständigen das Line-Up.

ROADRUNNER RECORDS bekunden nach einem im Juli 1986 aufgenommenen Demo Interesse an PARADOX, die Ende desselben Jahres einen weltweiten Plattenvertrag mit der Firma abschließen. Es folgt eine zweite Demoaufnahme mit dem Titel 'MYSTERY' datiert vom Februar 1987. Danach liefert das Quartett mit „PRAY TO THE GODZ OF WRATH“ einen Beitrag zu dem Sampler 'TEUTONIC INVASION PART ONE' ab.
Noch im Mai 1987 produzieren STEINHAUER & Co. in Münster mit KALLE TRAPP (SAXON, BLIND GUARDIAN) an den Reglern das erste Album „PRODUCT OF IMAGINATION“. Dessen weltweiter Release erfolgt im Oktober 1987. Für das gelungene Coverartwork sorgt JOE PETAGNO (MOTÖRHEAD)

ALBUM DES MONATS im ROCK HARD, METAL HAMMER (…“das beste deutsche Debüt seit Helloween…“), Höchstnoten im japanischen „BURRN, dem englischen KERRANG (…“here they are…the new Metallica..“), BRAVO, MUSIKEXPRESS, uva. bringen PARADOX schnell den Ruf als Deutschlands „NEWCOMER No.1 ein.
Im ROCK HARD Jahrespoll kürten die Leser im Februar 1988 PARADOX zur „besten deutschen Band“ knapp hinter den Veteranen SCORPIONS und ACCEPT, sowie zum „International Newcomer Of The Year 1987“ und hoffnungsvollste nationale Band 1988
Daraufhin tut sich auch an der Live-Front eine ganze Menge. So sind die Vier mit DRIFTER, TANKARD, OVERKILL, HELLOWEEN und vielen anderen mehr im In- und Ausland unterwegs. Höhepunkte sind Auftritte beim „DYNAMO OPEN AIR“ in Eindhoven im Mai 1988 vor 22.000 Leuten und beim „FESTA AVANTE“ in Lissabon im September 1988.
Im gleichen Jahr kommt es zur Mitwirkung bei dem Sampler 'STARS ON THRASH' mit dem Song „PARADOX“ von „PRODUCT OF IMAGINATION“.

Gleich zu Beginn des darauf folgenden Jahres spielen die Deutschen in Berlin unter der Ägide von HARRIS JOHNS das nächste Werk 'HERESY' ein, welches im Novemeber 1989 erneut über ROADRUNNER RECORDS veröffentlicht wird.
Und wieder verbuchen PARADOX einhellige Zustimmung von Medien und Musikfreunden rund um den Globus.

„HERESY“ bringt der Band um CHARLY STEINHAUER besonders in JAPAN unglaublichen Erfolg ein und man rutscht in den „BURRN-CHARTS“ von 0 auf 8 in die Top 10 als beste deutsche Band.
1990 sind PARADOX auf der Compilation „THRASH THE WALL“ mit „SEARCH FOR PERFECTION“ vom Album 'HERESY' vertreten.

Paradox stehen unmittelbar vor dem Durchbruch, doch plötzlich verschwindet die Truppe völlig überraschend für lange Zeit von der Bildfläche.

Es dauert mehr als 8 Jahre, bis CHARLY STEINHAUER sich durch Anfragen verschiedener Labels veranlasst sieht, PARADOX wieder ins Leben zu rufen. In KAI PASEMANN (Gitarre), sowie den Brüdern OLIVER HOLZWARTH (BLIND GUARDIAN/SIEGES EVEN) und ALEX HOLZWARTH (RHAPSODY OF FIRE/ANGRA/AVANTASIA/SIEGES EVEN) findet er hochqualifizierte Mitstreiter.
Im August 1999 stehen die Musiker beim „WACKEN OPEN AIR“ auf der Bühne und beginnen im November 1999 mit Produzent ANDY CLASSEN die Aufnahmen für das Comebackalbum „COLLISION COURSE“.
Im Mai 2000 bindet sich die Band vertraglich an AFM RECORDS, die den Longplayer im August 2000 weltweit veröfentlicht.
Wiederum heimst das Quartett ausnahmslos überschwengliche Kritiken ein. Im September 2000 sind PARADOX auf der Compilation 'A TRIBUTE TO THE SCORPIONS' mit deren Klassiker „DYNAMITE“ zu hören.
Eine Show beim „BANG YOUR HEAD FESTIVAL“ im Juni 2001 markiert einen weiteren Meilenstein auf dem Live Sektor.
Ebenfalls 2001 covern die Jungs für den NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS Sampler “A TRIBUTE TO ABBA” den Hit S.O.S.

Zahlreiche persönliche Schicksalsschläge und eine schwere Darmerkrankung zwingen CHARLY STEINHAUER ein zweites mal zu einer mehrjährigen Unterbrechung..

Im April 2006 steht die Band erstmals seit fünf Jahren wieder auf einer Bühne und startet auf dem „KEEP IT TRUE FESTIVAL“ das erneute Comeback.
Mit neuen Mitstreitern steuert der Vierer den Song „ZOMBIE ATTACK“ auf 'A TRIBUTE TO TANKARD' bei.
Im Januar 2008 veröffentlichen PARADOX via AFM-RECORDS das langersehnte 4.Studioalbum „ELECTRIFY“. Als Produzent fungiert erstmals CHARLY STEINHAUER himself. Für den MIX zeichnet sich JACOB HANSEN (VOLBEAT uva.) verantwortlich,
In Japan entert „ELECTRIFY“ kurz darauf die Pole Position der japanischen Importcharts des BURRN!
Weltweite Begeisterung seitens der Presse bringen das Quartett wieder „Back in Business“.
Es folgen umjubelte Konzerte in zahlreichen europäischen Ländern.

Bereits im Oktober 2009 folgt nach rekordverdächtiger Zeit das erneut von CHARLY STEINHAUER produzierte und diesmal von ACHIM KÖHLER (u.a. Edguy, Primal Fear) gemixte 5. Album „RIOT SQUAD“ weltweit über AFM-RECORDS.
Die Weltpresse betitelt den Silberling als „Bestes Album seit 20 Jahren“ und „Quintessenz des Paradoxen Schaffens“.
PARADOX stehen kurz vor dem Sprung in die USA und werden für das PROGPOWER Festival in Atlanta, Georgia gebucht, müssen aber aufgrund personeller Probleme absagen.

Mit neuem Line-Up arbeiten PARADOX derzeit am 6. noch unbetitelten Album, dass 2012 erneut via AFM-Records weltweit veröffentlicht wird.
Die Band plant wieder auf die Bühne zurück zu kehren.





After German cult Thrashers PARADOX returned with a bang in late 2007 (with their “Electrify” album) they promised that their fans would not have to wait another 7 years for a new studio album. And as they promised, they deliver now. And they deliver in style! Attention, here comes “Riot Squad”, the 5th PARADOX studio album. Expect a massive but melodic punch, right in your face. It´s all here: intense, powerful riff attacks, great lead guitar work and Charly Steinhauer´s typical vocals. Imagine “Riot Squad” to be a new Metallica album, the worldwide fanbase of Hetfield & Ulrich would cry out in joy! PARADOX show the Metal scene how it can sound like when originators of a genre stick to their roots but evolve by using today´s technological opportunities and refined songwriting. The result is a killer record from start to finish. “Riot Squad” is undoubtedly PARADOX´ masterpiece.

Not only one of the most hailed Thrash Metal bands of the 80´s (founded 1986) while still rooted in the underground, PARADOX always managed to be a little different: which German band could say that they won German Rock Hard´s soundcheck and let giants like Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne behind? Which band managed to become popular again after a 10-year layoff (from 1989 – 1999!) and is better than ever?
Signing with Roadrunner Records for their debut album “Product Of Imagination” PARADOX receive enthusiastic reviews from all over the world in 1987. Hailed as “album of the month” in many magazines like Metal Hammer and Rock Hard the album directly established PARADOX as “Germany´s newcomer No. 1”.

After a lot of live gig and festival appearances PARADOX went into the studio to record their second album “Heresy”, released in 1989. “Heresy” again excites critics and fans and becomes a success also in Japan.
But because of some line-up changes and disagreements with the record company the band was put on ice for many years.

But 10 years later the interest of record companies caused PARADOX to start another run, in a new line-up (Charly Steinhauer – vocals, guitars; Kai Pasemann – guitars; Oliver Holzwarth (Blind Guardian/ Sieges Even) – bass; Alex Holzwarth (Rhapsody/ Blind Guardian/ Angra) – drums).
Starting a furious comeback at the Wacken Open Air in 1999 PARADOX shortly after recorded their third album “Collision Course” under the aegis of Andy Classen.
In May 2000 the band signed a new contract with AFM Records who released the album worldwide in August. Once again critics were amazed and totally surprised: PARADOX were back with an impact!
In June 2001 the band performed very successfully at the prestigious Bang Your Head festival.
Serious health problems of mainman Charly Steinhauer caused another layoff.

In April 2006 the band returned to the stages, this time at the “Keep It True” festival. 2007 saw PARADOX playing concerts in Slovania, now having found their final line-up to record the next album “ELECTRIFY” In support of the release PARADOX played lots of festivals all over Europe.

In 2009 PARADOX released their 5th album "RIOT SQUAD"
