The progressive rock band, METRUM has been formed in 2008/09 by three young musicians. Passion, life, death and the dark side of an affluent society create emotional strength in their music and lyrics. The distinct riffs of bass and guitar and a strong driving beat carry the dark passionate voice of the lead singer. They combine the characteristics of a new dynamic sound and a powerful stage performance. The musicians' roots are diverse, coming from the USA, Austria and Germany.

About METRUM:

METRUM – three musicians that met in Austria, their roots are diverse, coming from the USA, Austria and Germany. They combine powerful bass and guitar-riffs with new progressive elements which harmonize perfectly with the dark, clear-cut voice of the lead-singer Alex. He puts a lot of emphasis on the messages in his lyrics.

Human rights, environmental and socio-political issues are not just empty phrases; the singer who writes the lyrics has experienced too much in life to just talk in platitudes. As a child he witnessed racism in South Africa. In 2008 he had a car accident, that damaged his lungs severely, nobody knew if he would regain the ability to sing again. These intense experiences as well as his study of international development shape his critical reflectiveness of the world.

Even though their lyrics are very critical, METRUM does not spread despair and depression at all, the 12 songs on their debut album “BROKEN” are full of energy and life. Their album was produced by Michael Hecht, a renowned Classic/Jazz/R&B producer; he gave METRUM’s songs a very fresh distinctive sound.

After many live performances, the three musicians were very excited to play their first major festival at the Danube Island Festival 2011, on a stage that supported the human rights movement. The single “BROKEN” which is named after the album, has been played on more than fifty German radio- stations, and on February 10th the debut album was released. This Album really has a powerful, emotional and progressive attitude that grooves. It is quite hard to determine how their genre could be described due to the fact that they are very fond of diversity, fusing modern rock music with touches of jazz, reggae, and metal.
