“Lou Hickey sounds like a female Nick Cave, creating sepia-toned vignettes of restless lives. The Glasgow singer/ songwriter is at one moment touchingly sad and broken, the next ballsy and angry. Think of a grown up Lilly Allen. A Lie is a laid-back and jazzy torch song, while the piano led Does It Get Easier? is a superb break-up song mixing smoky jazz with rock rhythms and wail of a violin. It also boasts the lyrics "I can watch the dust settle on our love". Now that’s poetry.” Daily Record

“Her smoky vocals are perfectly suited to the old world glamour of Club Noir” The List

“Her melodies ooze atmosphere and whisky-filled melancholy - simply can’t be missed.” "http://smallfish-online.net

“The production is superb and it sounds as though the Kronos Quartet have been roped in for backing. Her sweet vocals and sumptuous melody hark of a bygone era. In fact for just a moment I imagined myself as a spy in wartime Paris sitting in a café listening” http://crookedrain.co.uk

New single 'Minutes, hours, days' released 4th July 2011

Codeine Velvet Clubs debut album is now available in the U.K. U.S.A. and Canada through all major retailers.

Moving on from her success as co-writer and vocalist of the critically acclaimed Codeine Velvet Club with Jon Fratelli, Lou Hickey is now getting ready to release her own brand of vintage pop on the world. With two self-produced EPs already under her belt, Scotland's "Most Eligible Woman" is about to release her first full length solo album.

Championed by BBC Introducing, she already has an impressive independent solo career already behind her, having headlined at Glasgow's King Tuts and O2 ABC, as well as supporting the likes of Martha Reeves and the Vadellas, Suzanne Vega, and Imelda May. Lou is also a key performer at the worlds biggest burlesque club - Club Noir.

A sexy mix of quirky jazz and burlesque glamour, Lou's blend of retro pop perfectly reflects her vintage style, which has earned her recognition from the fashion world, including Glamour magazine, who listed her as "one to-Watch", as well as bagging the Most Stylish Musician at the Scottish Style Awards.

'True Love Ways' perfectly showcases Hickey's effortless Blues infused vocals and catchy retro-pop hooks, to create an album that is fun, yet beautifully nostalgic at the same time.

To celebrate the album release, Lou and her band will play a headline show at Glasgow's O2 ABC on Friday 31st May.
