Mr Bungle (Mike Patton), possibly Iodine Jupiter. It wasn't influenced by Jim Morrisons poetry record (An american prayer) because I did not hear it until the next year. Also it wasn't influenced by Carl Johan Vallgren's Klädpoker med djävulen because that one was produced the year after. One of the closest sounds to find is Arcturus' La Masquerade Infernale but that one was also the year after. /Chaan .. The recording technique is influenced by a swedish joke (a good joke) called Philemon Arthur & the Dung.
  • Sounds Like

Shit - technically speaking. But it had a soul.
Bussen is a cross-over style between symphonic rock and progressive swedish music (which was a style of the 1970's, with political message). Our song can be called symphonic/progressive, in swedish symfprogg. This crossover was not unique or new, Bernt Staf did this already 25 years earlier, combining simple lyrics with complex melody and build. The thing is though, there is nothing sounding quite the same. Krossad Sammet wasn't a copy, it was a band that could only happen there and then. Bussen means "The Bus" and is based on a story a girlfriend (in 1994) told me, where she was a child and had a horrifying experience with a man on a bus.
Krossad Sammet was also an occult band. While other swedish progg had a punch-in-the-face approach to the music and lyrics, just like punk music, Krossad Sammet were about the same themes, sexuality and politics, but instead of the common direct approach the message was repressed or at least dynamic. However the stage shows were also at times explosive with both screamed vocals and firecrackers going off.
Chaan, 2007-2011

Hi Krossad Sammet, All my thoughts are lost to your graceful gaze? The music that flows from your instruments overwhelms me with creativity. Your eyes show as many deep and full shades of fire as a volcano in heat. As the bliss slowly rises in my incandescent eluxulator, your mere presence has a euphoric effect upon me. How can I help but use your eyes as a means for self-asphyxiation? How beautiful is the snowshine in your eyes, so directly current from the static in your mind. Your essence is equal to the beauty of a galaxy.

The music that flows from your instruments overwhelms me with creativity. I love your eyes, I know they can stare through my thoughts. As the bliss slowly rises in my incandescent eluxulator, your mere presence has a euphoric effect upon me. How it passes there and back again like a tear drop glistening in moonlight. Wood nymphs sprinkle your path with rose petals while you dance and prowl in the sequined moonlight with leftover cupcake sprinkles. Your essence is equal to the beauty of a galaxy.

Hey Krossad Sammet, The sand runes crossing your divided consciousness do speak of contemptuous monsters being slayed by flying phoenixes. Wood nymphs sprinkle your path with rose petals while you dance and prowl in the sequined moonlight with leftover cupcake sprinkles. You turn the atmosphere ablaze with currents of sweet ethylene when you smile. In your presence even my shadow acquires the sensation of touch. The skin I shed is a perfume that makes water bubbles so terribly clear to me. Please let me hear more of that wonderful sound.

    Hello, KS!

Love 'Bussen'! If you ever release it (including artwork, etc.) I'm first in line to purchase it! It's an atmospheric, involving piece!

Kudos to you for keeping the art of music personal, individual, unique and 'art'. Hopefully, there'll be a time, very soon, when people re-evolve beyond commercial tripe and rediscover the brilliance of talent versus multinational marketing!

What was it?

Krossad Sammet is swedish for velvet crush and was a student band in 1996 in the swedish city Uppsala, who performed around eight gigs in or around Uppsala that year. Although perhaps no more than 300 people heard the music on stage - and not even a tape demo was released which was the common thing to do back then - it got talked about among students in town. The genre was mainly orchestrated poetry and there were a couple of humoristic songs too which could perhaps be placed under a general student-song label. All songs were in swedish. The concept was poetry of different kinds, the most noticeable fact was that it was explosive - literally. There were firecrackers or a toy gun fired on stage which made the band impossible to ignore if present at the venue.

Who was it?

Krossad Sammet featured two poets/hobby musicians that never had a stage performing band before, one percussionist that had several different musical projects going on - and a bassist that earlier were in a metal band. The two text composers did this as their first live project. There were also additional musicians: a second guitarist, a soprano saxophonist and even a drummer. At most we were seven persons on stage.

Shitty recording?

The song was recorded with a simple cassette recorder under the Lo-Fi flag.

It ended, then what?

The guy poet started writing pop songs and started a pop band, later a folk band with some others, and some experimental guitar/vocal music as a duo and also performed as a lone singer/songwriter. The girl poet went on competing on poetry slams with her bare voice. The percussionist (who was a drummer really, and songwriter, and piano player) kept on playing with his different projects. I was the guy poet and guitarist /Chaan
