.. .. Kim Beales is a singer/songwriter from Melbourne. Beales has recently been exploring the music of the sixties, for its melody and lyrical quality, and his recent influences include Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and contemporary artists including Sufjan Stevens and Arcade Fire. He is currently living in Melbourne, after spending a year in Kununurra (North West Australia). In 2010 he has been touring in Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Japan alongside Melbourne/Myanmar indie artist Tamas Wells. .. .. His first release, ep. A Day In The Dream caught the attention of the local music world, one such was Neala from Beat Magazine, who remarked "don't be surprised to see Beales has a cult following all of his own in the future". .. .. After a period of gigging in some of Melbourne's favourite band rooms and travelling the globe, Beales recorded his first full length album. Faster Louder writes: .. .. "Channelling the passion of early Ben Harper, and the compositional nous of James Taylor, 'The Whispers' is the debut album from singer-songwriter Kim Beales. The record fuses socially aware and intimate lyricism with restrained and mature arrangements." .. .. Kim toured his album and performed at venues including The Grace Emily, Jive Bar (Adelaide), Fly By Night Club (Fremantle), The Rob Roy, and The Northcote Social Club (Melbourne). The Whispers was aired nationally on triple J, and in local stations including PBS Fm, triple R, SYN fm, (Melbourne), and Three D (Adelaide). .. .. Beales has an eclectic line up, with multi instrumentalist Mike Herbert, (harp, accordian, piano and flute), Dave Toll (guitar, vocals) Owen Downie (bass), and Bruce Mcintyre (drums), each accomplished musicians from Melbourne. His live performances are a great mixture of intimacy and vibrancy. .. .. A second album is now very close to completion. It has been recorded in Melbourne, Kununurra (North West Australia) and even Myanmar. The album was recorded by Kim, with the help of David Toll in a mixture of settings including houses, halls, and churches, creating natural reverb and ambience. Kim recently performed some of this new material in China to an excellent reception. Keep an eye out for the release in early 2011. .. .. .. ...... .. .. ...... .. .. -
