EAR demo tape review at POP+ROCK, June 1999

Current mood:nostalgic

EAR was an acoustic duo by my self and by George Vasiliou that existed from 1997 to 1999. We made this demo tape in the summer of 1999 that consisted of 9 songs that were originally recorded around 1997, 1998 and 1999. Our intention was to send the tape to music magazines and record labels and get an opinion on our little compositions. Even though our little concept stayed forever in this tape (and in many other tapes recorded in our rooms and at a friend's basement) that was the first time that we really felt comfortable with our music and most of all this tape stills represent all our "teenage" fears, hopes and loves. (In 1999 George & I formed MonDieu which was the 'electric' version of Ear with John Karabelas on bass & Panayiotis Vafiades on drums)

Review in English:

Take a look at this… We have an unknown group from ........Thessaloniki which, with few means, record some songs in which one or two guitars set the base for English lyrics. Strange thing is that it sounds very interesting. These are little 'teenage' songs that bring to mind the "americana" of The Handsome Family, other times they're directed into more british forms of music and other times to the early '70s acoustic forms of the early years of the band America – and, most of all, there is a possibility that these kids have never actually heard none of the above. I hope I'll receive a better recording soon.
