THIS IS A FAN-RUN SITE. MEMBERS OF THE ONLY ONES HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, OTHER THAN ENDLESS INSPIRATION. Led by singer/songwriter Peter Perrett, The Only Ones (1977-1981)were one of the best bands to ever play rock music. Wrote Jim Walsh in the SPIN Alternative Guide: "At the height of the British punk explosion in 1978, the Only Ones opened their debut albut with 'The Whole Of The Law,' a defiantly sentimental love ballad tugged along by a cheesy lounge saxophone and singer/songwriter Peter Perrett's tragic-romantic lyrics. Live, the band's leopard skin vests, furs, pink top hats, sharkskin smoking jackets, and shades had more in common with glam than punk. Guitarist John Perry, as fluid a lead guitarist as has ever strapped on a Stratocaster, coolly ripped off otherworldly solos that shadowboxed with Perrett's suggestive, flowery, mystical, debauched verses." Steve Sutherland, in the liner notes to the "Faster Than Lightning" video documentary on The Only Ones: "The pink jackets, the shades at midnight, those glorious cheekbones, the fur coat even on the hottest days, the unruly fringe, the voice dripping decadance, the words exploring a thousand vices, the attitude enamoured of its own self-destruction, the way he always looked as if he'd just crawled out of bed and couldn't wait to get back there... for some of us Peter Perrett was, and still is, the ultimate star. "Literate, lithe, gorgeously frail, Perrett was everything punk wasn't and as the '70s surrendered to the brutish, baying hoardes, he stood virtually alone, a pariah on the periphery of the action, too hung up on his own reflection to worry about the unseemly bally-hoo." .. ..
