　磯部正文は72年4月15日に広島で生まれる。音楽でメシを食うために上京するが、本格的な音楽キャリアは94年の7月に始めたバンドのHUSKING BEEからだ。

4人編成だった当初の担当パートはギター／コーラスだったが、もともとシンガー志向が強かった磯部はメンバー脱退でトリオになった時からリード・ヴォーカルも務めることになり、ほとんどの曲を書いたことも含めてフロントマンとしてバンドを引っ張っていく。95年の12月にはアナログ盤のEPでレコード・デビュー。1年後には当時Hi-STANDARDの横山健のプロデュースでファースト・アルバム『Grip』をリリースする。
HUSKING BEEはメロディック・パンクと言われたが、ただ速くてスポーティーな“メロコア”とは一線を画し、切ないメロディの曲をじっくり聴かせるところも魅力だった。当時の同じフィールドのバンドたちと比べて歌が際立っていたのである。後にエモと呼ばれるような曲も早くからやっていたとも言えるが、磯部のヴォーカルは当時からあくまでも熱く、詩情豊かな歌心があふれていた。
コンスタントなライヴとリリースの活動を続けていくうちにHUSKING BEEは少しずつファンを増やしていき、気がついたら日本の“ラウド・ロック”のムーヴメントの渦中にいた。その中核だったHi-STANDARDらが主催した野外ライヴ・イベントの“AIR JAM”に、97年、98年、2000年の3回すべてに出演したことが象徴的だ。
そんな感じで順調に見えたHUSKING BEEだが、2005年1月のステージ上で突如解散宣言。その時の磯部の「わけは聞かないでほしい」という言葉が示すように苦渋の決断で、5枚のフル・アルバムと数枚のEPを残し、惜しまれながらも同年3月のライヴで活動に終止符を打ったのである。

実のところ磯部はHUSKING BEEが動いている時から、サイド・プロジェクトのコーナー（CORNER）を始めていた。アコースティック・ギターだけではなく一人だけでもなく、あまり型にハマってない感じの音楽を作る集団という形態で、アルバムは『走るナマケモノ』（2003年8月）と『入り口出口』（2006年7月）をリリースしている。
でも磯部はバンドをやりたかった。大変だからこそ面白いバンドならではの醍醐味を味わいながら音楽を続けたかった。

HUSKING BEE解散の1年後の2006年3月に、マーズリトミック（MARSEURYTHMICS）をスタートさせる。ここでも磯部がソングライターだったが、HUSKING BEEとは違ってメンバーの音楽的な好みが近いバンドではなかったから、あまり方向性を決めずに書きたい曲を書いて2007年に2枚のCDをリリース。歌を大切にしつつ色々なことをやり、『The blend of a cabanon』では曲の中にファンクやハードコア・パンクも挿入していたが、それも磯部のアイデアだった。
メンバーが替わりながらもMARS EURYTHMICSはライヴを続けていたが、2010年3月に活動停止。
2009年の6～7月頃から定期的に、磯部がアコースティック・ギター弾き語りのソロ・ライヴをやっていることを御存知の方も多いだろう。そんな中磯部はソロで音楽活動を続けていくことを決意する。

そして、ついに2010年8月　プロデューサーに盟友、BEAT CRUSADERSのヒダカトオルを迎え　様々なアーティストのサポートの元、バンド・サウンドを提示した磯部正文ソロ名義としてシングル「Do we know ?」 をリリース。
ヒダカは長年あまり使ってなかった磯部の“引き出し”を開けていき、“一番いい着物をなぜあなたは着ないんですか？”という具合に助言。磯部の良きリスナーでもあるヒダカは、HUSKING BEE時代からのファンの気持ちもわかっている。

　磯部は立ち返った。
もちろん決して後ろ向きの曲じゃない。こんなに生き生きと伸び伸びと気持ち良さそうに歌いギターを弾く磯部は、久しぶりだもの。ジョーイ・ラモーン（ラモーンズ）は言っていた。過去にさかのぼらなければ先に進めないと。これぞ磯部正文！と言いたくなる曲だから!

Masafumi Isobe, born in Hiroshima on April 15th, 1972, moved to Tokyo to try and ‘make it’ as a musician but his career as a musician didn’t really begin until July of 1994 with the start of the band Husking Bee.

A four piece band in the beginning, he was at first back-up vocals and guitar. When one of the band members left the band, Isobe, who had always wanted to sing, stepped up as the lead vocalist in the now three person band. He went on to become the front man of the band, writing most of the songs. They released their first vinyl EP in December of ’95 and one year later released their first full album, “Grip” which was produced by then Hi Standard member, Ken Yokoyama.

While Husking Bee was considered to be ‘melodic punk’, it distanced itself from the fast and sporty ‘melodic hard core’ bands and enchanted fans with its slower melancholy melodies. It can be said that they played songs that were soon to be called “Emo” but Isobe’s songs were full of passion from the beginning.

Husking Bee slowly gained popularity through steady album releases and live shows and before they knew it they were at the center of Japan’s “Loud Rock” movement. Symbolic of this is Husking Bee’s appearance at all three Air Jam events, hosted by Hi Standard who were then at the core of the movement, in ’97, ’98, and 2000.

All seemed to be going well for Husking Bee when they suddenly announced they’re breaking up while on stage in January of 2005. As his comment that “he didn’t want to be asked about the reasons why” tell us, Isobe wrangled with this hard decision before calling it quits for Husking Bee in March of the same year after 5 full albums and an EP.

Isobe had been working on side projects even while Husking Bee was still active with projects like “Corner”. Not just acoustic, not just a solo project, this non traditional musical group released “Hashiru Namakemono” [Running Sloth] in August 2003 and “Iriguchi Deguchi” [Entrance Exit] in July 2006.

But Isobe still wanted to be in a band. While not an easy thing to do, he never forgot the thrill that comes with making music with a good band. In March of 2006, one year after Husking Bee broke up, he started “Mars Eurythmics”. Isobe was once again the singer and songwriter but in contrast with Husking Bee, not everyone in his new band were in to the same type of music, leading him to just write songs he wanted to write and releasing two albums in 2007. While being sure to keep the import on the lyrics, Isobe came up with ideas like using funk and hard core punk in songs like “The Blend of a Cabanon”.

Mars Eurythmics continued to play shows until March 2010 even while changing band members. Many fans may be aware that Isobe has kept playing acoustic shows on his own since the summer of 2009.

Isobe decides to continue playing on his own and in August of 2010 with his good friend Toru Hidaka of the Beat Crusaders producing and many people from different bands taking part in the recording, Isobe creates a new band sound.

The single, “Do We Know?” is released under his name, Masafumi Isobe.

Hidaka advised Isobe to pull out all the stops and to not hold anything back. Hidaka, who is also a fan of Isobe’s, understood what the long time fans of the Husking Bee days wanted to hear.

Isobe makes a comeback. These are, of course, not negative songs. It has been a while since I’ve seen Isobe sing and play guitar while having so much fun. As Joey Ramone of The Ramones once said, you can’t move forward without looking at your past. These songs make you want to say, “This is Masafumi Isobe!”
