'indigo blue' – the most exciting musical duo to emerge from Japan’s shores in recent times, features the radiant Rina and her partner in crime, Kou. Hailing from Osaka and leading the duo with her tenderly angelic vocals, Rina joined Kou, an Hokkaido native famous for his supreme guitar technique and rich backup vocals, to form the musical sensation. The pair made their musical debut in 2005, and has since made waves in the Japanese music scene with their warmly tender melodies and tight band ensemble.
How best to describe their genre? Perhaps a smidgen of blues mixed in with a harmony of country and a dollop of R&B. Take a little rock and blend in a strong element of pop and there you have the unique sounds of 'indigo blue'.
Following their 2005 debut album ‘indigo blue’, they went on to release one of their most dynamic albums to date ‘indigo blue 2 – Scent of Magnolia’ in 2006, recorded right in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. Naturally, it didn’t take long for the duo to make waves through the radio scene, receiving widespread airplay on most Japanese FM stations, and were then well on their way to begin their popular national live house tour around the country in 2006.
Staples of the ‘Café Gig’ series at the main Starbucks store in Ginza, Tokyo, you can also catch Rina and Kou generously sharing their musical production techniques and skills in the Apple Store Lecture Series in Ginza, Tokyo. Indigo Blue’s third and most recent album ‘indigo blue 3 – Magic Carpet’, was released in 2008 to much critical acclaim.
