Pittsburgh band Grapevine came together in early 1997 and had the auspicious fortune to have their first live show be an opening appearance for hometown heroes the Clarks.
Consisting of singer/guitarist Jean-Marc Azoury, guitarist Kevin McDonald, bass player Kenny Pardiny, and drummer Chris Jamison, the band's blend of traditional rock with modern rock earned them comparisons to acts like the Black Crowes and Goo Goo Dolls. They quickly earned a live following and increased their profile when a Pittsburgh radio station included (and added to their play list) the song "Comfortable" on a compilation of local acts. In the summer of 1999, the group released their first full-length album, Star, through the Clarks' King Mouse imprint and, again, garnered local airplay and positive responses. ~ Tom Demalon
