.. .. .. .. Eilidh Steel and Mark Neal are a Scottish music duo playing traditional and contemporary tunes and songs with many of their own compositions on fiddle, guitar and vocals. Continuing in the traditions of Scottish music with many influences from Argyll and the West Coast of Scotland, they blend the historical and modern perspective using older and newer compositions. Both Eilidh and Mark are prolific composers writing tunes and songs, taking influences from a wide range of music from piping and fiddling to indie/funk/jazz and everything else around… .... .... Eilidh Steel is in great demand as a performer, composer and tutor. She grew up in Helensburgh, Argyllshire, where she started playing fiddle at a very young age. She studied Traditional Music Performance at North Highland College in Alness, Ross-shire, and was then was awarded a scholarship by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) to study a BA Honours Degree in Scottish Music. .... Eilidh is a prolific composer and many of her tunes are now getting played throughout the world. She has done a number of commissions, and also taught Scottish composition with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s ‘St Kilda’ Educational project. Eilidh has always been influenced and interested in the music from her home area of Argyll, researching this as part of her degree, and this along with many of her other musical interests forms part of the duo’s repertoire. .... She has considerable experience teaching with many festivals and organisations including: The Scots Music Group, Feisean Nan Gael, Interkeltisches Festival, Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop, Helensburgh and Lomond Fiddlers, Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin, Scots Fiddle Festival and Celtic Connections. .... In December 2009 Eilidh was awarded ‘Best Achievement of Argyllshire’ in the Argyll Awards. .... .... Multi instrumentalist Mark is originally from East Kilbride but has lived in Edinburgh since moving there to study for a physics degree and then PhD in Musical Acoustics. In Edinburgh he runs the recording studio ‘The Sonic Lodge’ and does sound system installation and consultancy and also promotes and runs the Edinburgh Ceilidh Club. He also manages and plays in the folk/rock ceilidh band ‘Teannaich’. .... Mark has always been interested in all types of music and has played with a number of different bands in many different genres, including the funk band ‘Hejira’. He enjoys blending the traditional songs and tunes with influences from a number of different styles, creating something contemporary but still linked to its musical heritage. .... .... The duos has toured extensively throughout the world, performed with actor/singer Ewan MacGregor, Supported to the band Madness, and have done countless TV and radio broadcasts. .... "Eilidh Steel and Mark Neal are one the most inspiring and popular things in Scotland since IKEA arrived giving you new colourful ideas but at the same time keeping retro important" ....
