Donovan on New Variety Lab Album
Current mood:
Donovan appears on the new Variety Lab album on the song "Is This the Last Time?".
happy
Info: Spotted a few years ago on various Hôtel Costes compilations with the track "London In The Rain", Variety Lab are back today with "Team Up!", a 12-track record composed with the help of a number of outstanding artists. Over a period of three years, Thierry Bellia's demos have passed into the hands of friends and musicians whose music he enjoys very much. Among those, let's just name David Bartholomé, the lead-singer with Belgian band Sharko, and also both Jérôme Didelot (Orwell) and Alexandre Longo (Cascadeur), ever so faithfull. Kidsaredead frontman Vincent Mougel also steps into this electro-pop laboratory and sings "Sodapop Confusion" , the first single taken from this album, on which a sample of Janette's famous "Porque Te Vas" can be heard. The range of featurings on "Team Up!" is wide. Nearly all the tracks here are sung by different artists. Thus we have first the mythical folk legend Donovan, then Yael Naim and Lisa Kékaula from the American band The Bellrays. The amazing David Bartholomé brings his own punchy tone of voice into this crazed project on which one can cross former Kas Product singer Mona Soyoc and Canadian singer Lily Frost.
« I was delighted to be asked to join Variety Lab on their project. I heard the song and knew it was influenced in part by my own music. I flew into Paris to record. I helped to re-work the song and had great fun with the band. It’s a cool track and I am pleased to present this first single with Variety Lab. It’s a funny lyric and I brought out the humour with one of my quirky accents that I use when I take on the character in a song. It’s a perfect new pop record to dance and meet a new friend or lover.“ - Donovan
