Bio:

Hello!, my name is Mark Hanson. I am a completely self taught musician. I got my first guitar at age 9 but I didn't stick with it. I moved out on my own when I was 16 years old and wasn't really able to pursue things such as guitar playing for a while. I didn't play guitar seriously until I got a Fender Squire Stratocaster when I was 22 years old. Now I play a 1960,s custom classic strat and an S101 guitar through a Crate V33 2x12 tube amp and sometimes my old Peavey Studio Pro 112. I have had a lifetime of experiences from which to draw from.....many good and many bad. I try to put those feelings into my guitar playing. The kind of music I play is instrumental guitar in several styles, such as blues, rock, and even a little jazz mixed in there. I play everything you hear in my songs....lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass guitar, and arrange the drums. I also use backing tracks to jam with and improvise over. I never have used a regular guitar pick.....I use a Golden Gate bluegrass style thumb pick (see it in the "my song" video) if I use a pick at all, but mostly I just use my fingers to pick. I like to play instrumental improvisation's but I have been working on several songs for a while and would like to get with other musicians and put some stuff together. I play lead guitar, bass guitar, Rhythm guitar, and arrange drums in my original songs. The rest of the time I keep myself busy playing lead guitar over backing tracks.

Influences:

Some of my influences are Roy Buchanan, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Carlos Santana, Kelvin Holly, Mark Knopfler, Warren Haynes, and so many others. Also, some of my relatives influenced me from an early age, like Grandma Dorothy "Dot" Box, my Uncle Bernard Garrett, and Uncle Daniel Garrett and his daughter Billy Rose....They all could play several different instruments.... I loved to hear that "honky tonk" piano! Also, my parents along with my uncle, and grandma Box had an old style 4 part harmony gospel group called "The Joyful Noise". They all made me realize that music is in my blood.
