.. DECONSTRUCTION OF A POSTMODERN MUSICIAN

The album is Corrado Rustici’s first solo work in many years.
Having dedicated the past 15 years to discovering, producing and bringing to commercial success some of the most influential artists in Italian history (Zucchero, Elisa, Francesco De Gregori, Claudio Baglioni, Andrea Bocelli and Negramaro) Corrado has now written, produced and performed 11 tracks which feature some of the friends, colleagues and artists with whom he has worked in the past and with whom he shares a common musical vision.

Inspired by the desire to create a more “vertical music artifact” and by the groundbreaking theories of the famous American philosopher Ken Wilber, Corrado has produced a musical genre that transcends easy labeling, or what he likes to call “Integral Music”.

An artistic work that “incorporates and then transcends” the many musical influences that have contributed to his musical make-up.
“Deconstruction of a postmodern musician” is a musical project in which pop, rock, jazz and ambient live side by side, which makes use of the various influences and brilliant performances of the great musicians who have contributed to the creation of more “levels” within the work.

From the first track “Eros” - an instrumental piece which showcases Corrado’s innovative guitar approach (in the bridge for example his guitar sounds eerily like a human voice) - the album defines and describes a metaphorical path which takes the listener through stages of disassembling the various roles/images of the guitarist/producer/writer… all the way through the last track “… and my mind became a color” - another instrumental experimentation, in which Corrado recorded the Pacific ocean and then tried to replicate the natural rhythm and amplitude of the waves with only guitar sounds, giving an harmonic content to the rhythm of the ocean.

In this musical journey - from pop to pure vision-essence – Corrado is accompanied by some of the best musicians in the world. From Allan Holdsworth who trades solos with Corrado in the avant-garde track “Tantrum to blind”, to Paul McCandless (virtuoso oboe player from the band Oregon), to the very talented keyboardist Peter John Vettese (Jethro Tull, Annie Lennox, Seal) to Michael Manring (one of the great bass players in the world), to Steve Smith virtuoso drummer (Journey, Steps Ahead, Vital Information) to the multitalented singer-songwriter Elisa, Negramaro and many other guests.

At a time when all seems to be reduced to Flat-Land perception and when depth is scorned rather than encouraged “Deconstruction of a postmodern musician” is a virtuoso musician’s look into the possible future reality of Integral Music.

The following is an introduction by Ken Wilber to “Deconstruction of a postmodern musician” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Having spent over three decades developing an Integral Approach to “life, god, the universe, and everything,” many people have come forward to ask, “What is integral art?” Simply put, integral art is anything created by an artist with integral consciousness. Integral consciousness can hold in mind the entire spectrum of creative possibility, but one doesn’t therefore combine every “color” in his or her palette, which creates, precisely, mud.

My good friend Corrado has deeply integral consciousness, and Deconstruction of a Postmodern Musician is a direct and beautiful testament to this fact. Composed and expressed with an incredible display of technical skill, his music radiates with a fullness of being that wants nothing more than to share the abundance from which it flows. Employing a wide range of musical voices and emotional tones, what one is left with is the tangible feeling of depth, long after the last note is struck.

What is it about depth that touches us so? How is it that the human soul can distinguish between the superficial and the profound? Most of all, what is this absolutely stunning miracle of beauty? Science cannot measure, count, or point to beauty, and so according to the worldview of most hip, savvy, modern human beings, beauty technically does not exist. Yet there it is. And we all recognize it, just as we might recognize love, or justice, or wisdom.

Perhaps it is here, amidst those delicate intuitions of something more meaningful than a world composed of frisky dirt, that we can find the true essence of integral art. Be it the haunting chords of a song, a fiery sunset emblazoned in paint, or the face of a stranger captured on film, beauty takes us beyond ourselves, beyond the tension of separation, to a place we might not have otherwise suspected existed. For a moment, there is no song, no sunset, no face… and no self. For a moment, something else entirely shines forth, and even the sun is but one small ray of the Grace illuminating the Kosmos from within. It is here that beauty, truth, and goodness find their home. It is here that the integral impulse towards wholeness finds its timeless source in Wholeness. And it is here that the Great Artist is revealed, and that Artist is none other than the one looking out through your eyes right now, painting through your brush, singing through your voice, dancing through your body, marveling at the wonder of it all… astonished at what you have created.
