The neo-psych indie rock group Beaches were formed in Melbourne, Australia and released their first LP in 2008 for Mistletone Records.
Antonia Sellbach (guitar/vocals), Alison Bolger (guitar/vocals), Ali McCann (guitar/vocals), Gill Tucker (bass/vocals), and Karla Way (drums/vocals) draw inspiration from '60s psych pop, '90s shoegaze, Flying Nun dream pop, and German drone rock. The album made the short list for the Australian Music Prize and launched the band's career. They toured the U.S. twice, played All Tomorrows Parties in 2009, and released an EP (Eternal Sphere) for Mexican Summer in 2010. The group's second album, She Beats, which featured guitar work from Neu!'s Michael Rother, was released by Chapter Records in 2013. ~ Tim Sendra
