educate yourself well before getting tattooed
Things to think about.....not everyones skin is perfect for tattoo, 1 in 1000 people do not take or show tattooing well....tattoos are all transparent (see through-not opaque), 3 layers of skin are on top of the tattoo and some peoples skin make a tattoo look milky, some not bright and some skin blurs or spreads with a haze, some people react to or reject one color (mineral) or another, tattoos hurt and if you cant control your actions during pain-think twice, if its not easy for you to spend the money-simply dont do it, nobody needs a tattoo-we want them-know the difference, dont be in a hurry-ever-to be tattooed, pay attention if the tattooist prefers or excels in one style over another, and only sit in well experienced tattooers chairs. Dont be tattooed to change your life-thats what psych counselors are for, get art that could hang on your wall rather than logos and bumper stickers that date the mind set and state of life you are in at the moment; these are the tattoos that practically every one received years ago have covered, don't care about or regretted since,
some people that get tattooed don't take care or stay clean while healing and thats 50% of making a good tattoo. also every body has different skin and health issues (if you are ill or use hard drugs, you will heal poorly) this will have a lot to do with what a tattoo looks like when settled in skin. Spreading, hazeing, milky, raised are all do to diff. skin types. some different areas of peoples bodies can even react diff. Don't get drunk to get tattooed, because the thin blood pushes alot of the color and detail right back out the night you get it. also, when you leave the shop you must take care of healing skin for a couple weeks, If you don't like any of this, simply don't do it
the reasons that tattoos were looked down upon for so long is a lot of the people that got them (before back in the day) said "look I did it and I hate it". they say that because they never should have gotten tattooed in the first place.
Don't be one of these people and remember, everyone gets the tattoo they deserve!

LOVE THE ADVICE ABOUT ACTIONS AND PAIN..SHOWS MAKE IT LOOK LIKE IT DONT HURT..I GOT ON ON TOP OF MY FOOT AND IT WAS PAINFUL BUT WORTH IT
First off your work is undiscribably wonderful... I know that sounds lame but I cant find the word to explain how much I love your work... but anyways I have to tell you this and its quite funny but on Saturday I'm getting my first tattoo. My husband has about 11 now and is getting one more and asked if I was ready.. and I know I am honestly ready now. We've been together for four years now and I have waited and waited because I wasnt sure what I wanted and I'm defiantly scared that I'll be one of those people who arent good to be tattooed. I don't like small tattoos, I've always had a thing for big beautiful works of art *and my husband has many :-D*... I'm defiantly not going for the big stuff now, I'm going to start of small *well medium in everyone elses eyes*... I'm pretty sure I can handle the pain, I've never been bothered by pain, but I just have one question... Is there a way to find out if your skins good for tattoos, I have the perfect design in my head (my husbands drawing it out for me) and it would be completely worth it if it didnt work out, but like any other person, if theres a way to know before being tattooed that I would appreciate it.
Well I have to run but it was a pleasure getting advice from someone like you.... it was a real eye opener... Thanks again

I agree completely. It took me years before I decided what I wanted and where I wanted it. I looked and looked and finally decided what I like the most and what I could live with for the rest of my life. I feel my tattoos have meaning (at least to me) and I think that is a very improtant thing when getting a tattoo. It has to mean something. I also got small tattoos that could be hidden if I needed them to be for work or whatever reason and they can be seen if I want them to be seen. I think when you get a tattoo you must take your time and find the right tattoo for you. After all you will have it for the rest of your life.
AMEN!! Like 6 or 7 years ago when Godmack was hit it big and everyone and thier mother got that damn Sun tattoo. Cool design but who wants something everybody else has on thier body permantly?
Great advice, and very timely, since I am wanting to get my first
BROVO BRO IF PEOPLE WILL TAKE THE ADVISE AND REALLY READ IT AND PUT IT TO USE THERE WOULD BE A LOT LESS I WISH I HAD NOT GOT OR LIKE YOU SAID DRUNK TATTS.
DRINKING HAS A LOT TO DO WITH A BIG % OF THE REGRETT TATTS.
ME I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE I JUST WANT THEM TO HAVE MEANING AND LOOK GOOD FOR ME AND THE PAIN IS ALL IN ONES HEAD. I FEEL THAT PAIN CAN BE BLOCKED TO A DEGREE AND CRY BABBIES SHOULD THINK HARD AND LONG BEFOR GOING UNDER THE GUN. IF YOU CAN TAKE A SHOT FROM THE DOCTORS OR A SMALL CUT DONT GET INKED!!!!!! LATER BRO THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE AND HOPE IT HELPS OTHERS IF THEY CAN READ!!!
Thats why I quit getting them for a long time. I got some from outside shops and it shows, but I still like most of them and they meant something. A couple I will have fixed soon and the rest will be let alone.
I think a lot of regret also comes from people who get tattoos on the spur of the moment. We've taught our kids to take their time deciding what kind of tattoo they want, and then when they decide, to wait a bit longer. It's the ones you've wanted for a long time that become the ones you love and don't regret.
I think another important thing is for people to look at the artists books. We have a tattoo artist here that several people raved about his work. When I went to the shop, I looked through his photographs and found that I didn't care for his style and the look of his work. We all have different tastes, just as each artist has a different style and his/her own unique touch.
HERE HERE!!!!
This is great advice. Too many people want to jump on the "I'm cool too" train and do not take their time to do their homework. It's a shame that some people get bad tattoos, but you're right. Everyone gets the tattoo they deserve.
