..oracle was born in october 1998 when mike[pony]hewetson met alex petrosino who had moved to england from milan in italy in 1996.they started to jam and soon realised they both had a love of space rock.the music sounded very reminiscent of hawkwind/ozrics.mike saw some potential in this and decided to write some music.the quality was good so they decided to do an album."we hadnt done a cd before says mike,as when i played keys for galahad back in 1987-88,it was still the days of vinyl,and alex hadnt either so it was very exiting! within 5 months the 1st album was ready and we named it "segreto del cosmos".marketing has always been hard for prog/space rock,so we decided we would keep it a studio/jamming project". throughout 1999 the music just kept coming and john tarella[also from milan] joined on guitar.no live shows until sept 2001 meant most of the time would be taken up writing new music. john began to write along with mike and alex and by feb 2000 a 2nd oracle album "horizons" was produced. 2000 was spent writing new tunes and by "tides of eternity"[3rd album] mike(smoke)eyears (guitar) and vicky(tori)colthup had joined oracle. oracles 1st live performance took place in xchurch on sept 8th 2001 and included in the set were lots of hawkwind songs along with 3 or 4 oracle tracks. mike : the police decided to turn up at 1pm in the morning for some strange reason! well i spose when u have a loud rock band and many people on ecstasy and weed,high as kites the cops are gonna make a b-line straight to the party,thankfully there were no arrests!" .alex and john were busy with other things so they needed a full time guitarist. in april of 2002 mike rang martin(golly)clayton who he had met at a local church in 2000.martin was and still is "the metal warrior" of oracle.martin said he would join and oracle had their classic lineup .in 2002 oracle played 2 gigs at the gander on the green and 1 at bartonkas in bournemouth. in 2003 2 albums were produced. the 1st one (spacehawks) was a tribute to hawkwind and was never released.mike "we couldnt manage to get the album cover sorted,so 1 day we will have it available i promise ! the other album "globemaster" had some of the best music since the band had started and featured alexs last performance with oracle. in 2004 the album "as above so below" proved to be the best oracle album and some sturling performances ,big john tarella also composed and played on the album. 2005 and another good album "time of the seeker".mike: we just did the one gig that year at the gander,by now we were playing mostly our own songs" 2006. the 1st live album "live oracles 2006"included was he hawk classic "silver machine.and 2 gigs at the green room,portman hotel boscombe. 2007-2008. "we had no albums in these years but 3 gigs at the green room were well attended. by the end of 2008 a 10th anniversary gig venue was being looked at. "i searched for a "special place" for this event,says mike.it was to be another 4 months before we settled on the central bars in poole" 2009.on 7th march oracle had their 10th anniversary. it was very well attended 70-80 spaceheads turned up. many oracle classics were played.a dvd was also recorded.a new oracle album is set to be released in nov 2009 entitled "fantastic voyage" we have had to change our name to "mothership oracle" just for myspace, as theres too many "oracles" and there doesnt appear to be a way to define us other than the fact that we are prog rock! (theres a band named oracle from canada who play j.tull covers and many other oracles including an oracle wedding band!!!) we hope you will find us more easily now!
